‘Oya’ refers to a traditional form of Ottoman lace originating in Anatolia. It is made using a needle or crochet hook with intricate patterns. Christine Delpal, the founder of Karawan, develops her collections with a collective of Turkish women, with a view to promoting and professionalising this exceptional feminine craft, which has been overlooked for too long.

the Oya signature

OYA lace is crocheted using very fine hooks by the women of Anatolia, with thread embellished with beads to highlight the patterns. The Liana necklace combines delicate patterns that repeat around the neck for a graphic style with a touch of the Orient!

Promoting women's work

Wire and bead choker necklace, minimalist design with an oriental touch. Fastens with a clasp. Length: 40 cm. Handmade using crochet. Comes in a handmade screen-printed Nepalese paper gift bag with a flyer explaining the history of the collection.

Oya lace jewellery was born from a fusion of Turkish lace-making tradition and the traveller's perspective of Christine Delpal, creator of the Karawan brand. Her encounter with Hanifa and her sisters, villagers from Anatolia, was a natural fit. They shared a desire to pass on and support the professionalisation of exceptional traditional female skills, which are often too limited to the domestic sphere.

Viscose thread and seed beads. Engraved brass logo medallion.

Delivered in a handmade screen-printed Nepalese paper gift bag, with a flyer about the history of the collection.
