BLOWN GLASS
The workshop where Karawan makes its vases and candle holders is in Firozabad, a town in northern India renowned for its glassmaking. The recycled glass is sorted by colour: blue, green, brown, transparent... Mixtures of colours are used to create subtle tones.
At the heart of the glass workshops
The glass is heated at high temperature in a furnace until it becomes malleable. Once molten, the glassmaker takes a mass of molten glass using a metal rod. He then blows into the rod to form a bubble, gradually giving shape to the product by adjusting the glass with precise gestures. This work requires patience, temperature control and a sure hand to shape each piece to the desired design.
Creations inspired by nature, to be placed near a window, on a terrace or in a garden to take advantage of transparency and the play of colour and light.
The vibrant, translucent shades of glass
The colours of the candle holders blend together to create captivating visual effects. Their organic contours are reminiscent of molten lava. Their faceted or hand-polished patterns amplify the dance of a candle flame, transforming every bit of light seen into a radiant spectacle. The Aquacube and Flowers vases have a pure, aquatic-inspired design that resonates with the world of the bath. Their hand-crafted, undulating surfaces mimic the movements of water, creating a sculptural work of art.
