Oya is a traditional Ottoman lace originating in Anatolia, renowned for the delicacy of its needle- or crochet-made patterns. Through her collections, Christine Delpal, founder of Karawan, works closely with a collective of women from Anatolia to preserve, pass on and promote this exceptional feminine craftsmanship, which has long remained in the shadow of a purely domestic activity.

Oya lace jewellery was born from a fusion of Turkish lace-making tradition and the traveller's eye of Christine Delpal, creator of the Karawan brand. The meeting with Hanifa and her sisters, villagers from Anatolia, was a natural fit. They shared a desire to pass on and support the professionalisation of exceptional traditional female skills that are too often overlooked.
