The bamboo green colour

The whiteness of the cotton serves as a backdrop, highlighting the bright green motifs, reminiscent of the calm of the forest... An evocation of a moment of idleness ‘in the green’ or by the water.

Natural organic materials

Karawan's 100% cotton wickerwork is hand-printed using the blockprint technique.
The zigzag patterns are repeated to create a harmonious rhythm. A strip of solid colour marks a transition to another motif: the Karawan rosette. A nod to the oriental arts that we love so much...

The pareo-chèche is a multi-purpose textile accessory that can be used as a pareo, a chèche, a screen or a sunshade, depending on the moment:

  • At home: for relaxation, as homewear or after a shower.
  • In summer: at the beach, around the bust or waist as a pareo, to drape against the wind or cover up from the sun.
  • In the evening: as a chèche wrapped around your neck, as the cool of the night sets in.

PAREO CHECHE

This pareo-chèche is a unique creation by Karawan. Hand-printed using the traditional blockprint technique with wooden stamps engraved with our exclusive motifs. A fusion of two iconic garments - the sarong from the Pacific islands and the chèche from the Saharan desert - this 2-in-1 textile accessory adapts to all styles and all seasons.

Ethical creation in support of traditional art

Karawan has teamed up with a craft workshop in Rajasthan, India, to revisit the art of the blockprint, a veritable living heritage. Each stamp is meticulously sculpted by hand, then applied to the fabric using exacting craftsmanship. The variations in intensity, due to the pressure exerted by the craftsman, give each piece its unique character.
As well as being aesthetically pleasing, this organic cotton pareo-chèche is also meaningful: it promotes textile craftsmanship, manual creation and ethical, responsible fashion.

Each print reveals slight variations that reflect the human touch, making your pareo-chèche absolutely unique. At the crossroads of art, tradition and travel, it enhances your look while supporting an ethical and sustainable textile industry.

The block print technique,
exclusive designs by Karawan

Although the blockprint originated in China and ancient Egypt, it reached its apogee in India, becoming a symbol of craftsmanship firmly rooted in the country's cultural heritage. The motifs are engraved by hand on wooden stamps. The blocks are then coated with colour and placed on the fabric, sometimes in several passes and dye baths. The result is unique, thanks to the shifts and superimpositions of colours and designs. With blockprint, each design tells the authentic story of the cultures that inspired it.
