To design its soap dishes, Karawan works with a marble workshop located near Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam. There are over a hundred craftsmen with exceptional skills. Most of their production is geared towards the chiselled sculpture of large pieces representing heroes, goddesses or divinities, which are displayed in Vietnamese temples or exported to Japan.
Organised as a cooperative, the workshop complies with International Labour Office (ILO) standards and has obtained ISO 9001 certification, guaranteeing quality that meets the requirements of international importers. Several dozen partly mechanised workstations follow one another to produce the finished piece. Each station is managed by an experienced craftsman. Karawan pre-financed the purchase of the marble blocks and production to order.
